Friday, October 12th

 

This past week Savannah was "Detective of the Week" were she was the special spotlight person in her class, it helps the kids get to know each other better and makes them feel special for the week.  Savannah was so excited as we were preparing for it, she couldn't even sleep one night.  The first day she took a poster about herself and a bag full of things that she likes, the second day she took her favorite book and read it to the class, the third day I sent a book I made about her with pictures, and the last day Austin and I got to go have lunch with her.  It was a fun week for her.

 Friday was also "Fall Parties", no such thing as Halloween parites because it might offend someone so I let the kids dress up in a halloween shirt since they can't wear their costumes. As you can tell they had a great time. I loved Olivia's "bat hat", she looks so cute in it.

 

  Madi's class did so much stuff, Savannah got a little jealous, but that's what happens when you have different parents planning the parties (side note: I did ask Savannah if she had fun at her party before she knew what Madi did, she said she did.)  But what was so exciting for Madi was she won that jar of can pumpkins for guess how many were in the jar.  Yeah for Madi! and she was even a nice sister and shared some of her treats.

Fire Safety!

Wednesday, October 10th our Fire Station had a night of fire safety, they have it every year but we have never gone but this year I decided to take the kids.  We picked Madi up from dance (that's why she is in her dance clothes) and got there right when it started.  It was really fun, they had lot of activities for kids; coloring books, pamplets, games, a little snack, scavenger hunt, stop, drop and roll activity, save the baby, put out the fire with the fire hose, puppet show, a house they filled with simulated smoke that you had to crawl though, try on the fire gear, and of course climb in the fire trucks and emergency vehicles.  We didn't have time to do everything since it was getting cold, we hadn't eaten dinner yet and the lines were really long.  The kids had a great time though and hopefully learned something.

 

(No pictures of Olivia because she didn't want to "save the baby" or dress up.  She did do "Stop, Drop and Roll"  I just don't have pictures it.)

sewing

 

Savannah wanted to sewing something so when we were at the fabric store one night we found this fabric and decided we would make a pillow, since that is about the only thing I know how to make.  When we were buying the material the girl asked if we were going to make a tie pillow with fringe, I told her "no", because Savannah really wanted to sew and use her sewing machine.

 

Well the fabric sat around for a few weeks and finally we decided to make the pillow but by that time I really didn't want to get all the sewing stuff out and I thought a tie pillow would be a lot cutier instead of a rectangle stuffed pillow case closed off, so I talked Savannah into the tie pillow, we looked online to see how to make it and in less than 30 minutes we had this cute little pillow.

golf lessons

Jason had the day off last Friday (I know don't go into too much shock) and there was a big garage sale at this church so we decided to go and check it out.  We found a little set of golf clubs for kids for $5, we had talked about getting the kids a little set a few weeks before so it was a good find.  The kids thought they were great and Jason thought it was great when Savannah was out in the back practicing so he went out and gave Savannah her 1st golf lesson.  Don't worry they weren't using real golf balls.

Halloween Tradition

Decorating Sugar Cookies to look like pumpkins is a Halloween tradition I did as a child and loved it, there's nothing like a sugar cookie with chocolate chips and smarties.  Our kids love it too and so the other night we spent it decorating cookies and then eating them, of course.

General Conference

Today during General Conference for the Church, President Thomas S. Monson made a wonderful announcement....

"I am pleased to announce that effective immediately all worthy and able young men who have graduated from high school or its equivalent, regardless of where they live, will have the option of being recommended for missionary service beginning at the age of 18, instead of age 19. I am not suggesting that all young men will—or should—serve at this earlier age. Rather, based on individual circumstances as well as upon a determination by priesthood leaders, this option is now available.

 

As we have prayerfully pondered the age at which young men may begin their missionary service, we have also given consideration to the age at which a young woman might serve. Today I am pleased to announce that able, worthy young women who have the desire to serve may be recommended for missionary service beginning at age 19, instead of age 21."

 

Jason was at work, so later that day when he called I told him the great news and he felt the same way I did.  We feel that it is wonderful and will keep the young men out of trouble during that limbo time that was there between graduation and the time they turned 19.  With this new option they can go on their mission when they feel it best fits them.  And with the young women age change there might be more young women who will be able to serve before they get married.

 

Soccer!

Soccer season was starting and so we asked the girls if they wanted to play, Madi was the only one who wanted to.

 

Last Saturday was her 1st game.  It's indoors with 4 and 5 year olds.  I had a Leadership Training meeting for church at the same time, Jason was off so he took her and the other kids to watch.

 

When I got home he told me how good she was, she made a goal or two and she really liked it.  He said she ran around the whole time with a smile on her face, playing her hardest.

 

Soccer became a sensation at our house over night and ended up being our Sunday night activity...  Madi and Olivia against Savannah, Jason against Savannah, Madi and Olivia with Austin running around...I was the score keeper.

 

 

Yesterday I took Madi and the kids (Jason had a golf game that he had rain check with some guys from work.) within the first 2 minutes of playing Madi had scored 4 goals, by the end of the game she had about 8 goals and two blocks.  She was really fun to watch and more fun because you could tell she was enjoying it and she tried really hard.  After I asked her if she knew why she did better this time and her response was, "because I practiced."  Jason had been trying to get that in her head all last week and it was a success!

 

So for the next 4 weeks we will be at Madi's Soccer games cheering her on.
