Gypsy Parade

 

The Gypsy Days are huge here in Aberdeen.  It is an old tradition from Northern University.  They have a ton of events and one is the biggest parade of the year so we decided to go check it out.  Jason was at a Golf Tournament Fundraiser to support someone in the ward so I took the kids and Leah (a little girl in our ward Savannah's age who we were watching for a couple days).  We had a great time and got lots of candy, my favorite was the tape and post-it's that the 3M plant in town passed out. 

 



Traditions

Last night Olivia did a Family Night on family traditions.  She read a little poem about traditions that she found in the "Friend" magazine and then we went around the room and wrote down our family traditions  (yearly, weekly and daily).
This blog tells about our family traditions but I thought I would write them down in one spot just so we could look at them and remember.  I am sure I will miss some and some will be created but these are some we talked about last night.

YEARLY
Birthday dates with dad
Birthday lunch with mom
Birthday clothes in the morning, the remaining presents at night
Valentines breakfast (table decorated with a little gift).
Valentines for our friends-put them on the doorstep, ring the doorbell and run
Easter- dye eggs, Easter Egg hunt,  Easter Ham dinner
Vanishing breakfast rolls told with the story of the Resurrection
4th of July Fireworks
Going to Utah in the Summer

We went to the bank is morning and someone told Jason he saw him in the newspaper that morning.  We knew they were going to run an advertisement but never heard when, so we went and bought a paper at the gas station and there is was!

 

Follow up: He must have been in the paper a few other times because at one point Madi's school teacher asked, what her dad did for a job?, and Madi told her, he was a Surgeon and then her teacher responded, "oh, I saw him in the paper today."

So far Jason working at here is great!  He is home at nights, he hasn't missed a soccer game (8 per week), he has time to golf and take us golfing too, we still do date nights once a week, over all we just see our dad more and we like it.  Except Olivia had one complaint the other day.

Olivia: "Does dad work anymore?"
me: "Yes, why?"
Olivia: "He doesn't wear those green things (scrubs) anymore."
me: "Well he has to see people in the clinic so he dresses up like your doctors and then changes into the scrubs when he operates."
Olivia: "I like residency better."

I'm sure it will change and things will get more busy but for now we will take the one complaint and enjoy it while we can.

(Note: you have to understand Olivia only remembers her dad in green scrubs.  When he started residency she was only 3 1/2 and that is what she saw him in for 5 years (until now at the age of 7 1/2).  So to her those green scrubs are a memory of her dad coming home from work and asking where his hug is.  A very happy time!)  Green Scrubs=Dad

This is the one and only year all the kids will be at the same school.  On warm days, when we are on time I drop them off at the corner and then the walk a block to the school.  It is so fun to watch them walk together...they are good friends and watch out for each other at school which makes me feel so good.
