carving pumpkins

Tonight we carved pumpkins!  The kids all picked what they wanted on their pumpkins.  Savannah and Madi carved theirs all by themselves and did a great job.  Olivia helped carve her witch and then she really wanted it to say "Happy Halloween" but instead of carving it we opted for her to just write it with marker.  And Austin wanted a fire pumpkin so that's what I tried to accomplish on his...he likes it and that's all that matters, although he kept wanting it to have cheeks.?

They look great and will be fun all lit up tomorrow night!

Kindergarten Field Trip

I got drawn to go on the field trip to the apple orchard with Olivia's kindergarten class.  It was supposed to be at the beginning of this month but got rescheduled because of thunderstorms.  (Luckily Alisha said she would watch Austin while I went.  Thanks so much Alisha!)

We left on the bus at 8:55am and got home around 1:30pm.  It was lots of fun!  I had 4 cute girls to keep track of as we went to different stations and then on a tour around the apple orchard.  We learned lots of fun things.  Like how to pick an apple...lift, twist, pull, that kids in the 1800's used hot potatoes to keep there hands warm while walking to and from school, they even had an albino peacock that spread it's feathers for us.  We went on a hayride out to the orchard and got to pick 3 apples to take home.  Olivia's favorite part was going down the slide and learning about the school kids in the 1800's.

It was a fun day that I got to spend with Olivia.  I haven't been able to help very much with the kids classes because I have other little kids but now that I only have Austin home it's easier to find someone to watch him while I help.  Next year I will hopefully get to help more with all their classes when Austin goes to preschool.

(I can't believe how much this apple orchard has changed since our first time going as a family with friends back in 2008.)

Halloween Festivities

We decorated pumpkin sugar cookies

Last week we went to the pumpkin patch but they were all green so we...

Played on the tire swing and went in "the box", a small dark shed maze.

saw the cute animals and then drove to Hy-Vee to pick out our pumpkins

Saturday was our Ward Chili Cook off and Trunk or Treat

Ladies in our Ward dressed as "Duck Dynasty"

Austin and his best buddy, Greydo

The Costume Parade

After the Truck or Treat.  Austin is mad because we caught him going around a second time...he almost made it all the way around again.  He didn't know, he just came back to the car and kept going and I didn't really notice since there where so many kids, until it started dying down and I saw other kids going around again.  Then I thought I haven't seen Austin for awhile and he wasn't with his friend.  That's when we found him going from trunk to trunk again.

Olivia's soccer

For the past 6 Saturdays we have been spending time watching Olivia play soccer.  We had her all signed up for dance and on her 1st day she decided she didn't want to dance so we cancelled that but made her try soccer.  She really wasn't too excited at first but after her 1st game she really liked it and enjoyed going to each game.  She was really good and got a few goals for her team and blocked a few of the other teams goals.  GOOD JOB OLIVIA!

Ward Campout

Friday and Saturday was our ward campout.  Of course Jason had to work but I decided to take the kids up Friday for a few hours and not sleepover.  (I didn't really want the kids first camping experience to be without their dad nor did I want to experience it alone, just in case they got scared...plus it was supposed to rain.)

We had never been up to the church property.  It was really nice.  They have flush toilets, showers, little cabins, a pavilion with lights, refrigerators, and fans, and camp sites all with fire pits and a huge building that is a kitchen and a big open space.  They also have 2 tire swings, a rope across the river that you can cross on, a big open grassy area and lots of places to explore.

The kids absolutely loved it, they didn't want to leave.  They were having so much fun playing with all their friends, being outside, and exploring.  Next year we will get their earlier so we have more daylight to play.
