Utah

Not the happiest trip to Utah  Grandpa died on Sunday and the kids and I hopped in the car early Monday morning.
It did work out good for me that Brenda and Grandpa died a week apart and they waited to do Brenda's funeral a week later because of Memorial Day.  It made it so I could be there for both funerals.  It ended up that they were back to back, so Tuesday - Friday we were at either a viewing or a funeral.  Although it was very sad, it was also very happy.

Sad because we lost two great family members but happy because we know they have their health back and are with family on the other side.  And not only were they having a family reunion on the other side we were able to have a big family reunion on this side.

The kids learned a lot about death and what happens.

The kids came to Brenda's viewing with me and then Kathy and Russ took them back to their house so they could play while I stayed.

Then for the funeral Savannah stayed at grandpa and grandma's Gardner's house and watched Madi, Olivia, Austin, Josh, Tate and Mason.

After Brenda's funeral I called Lois to see if I could bring my kids up to the house.  Since I knew it would be sold before I could get there again.  They had never seen it and it was fun for me to walk though it again and have all the wonderful memories of that house come back to me.

The Mortuary had the whole family meet an hour before grandpa's viewing and talked to the kids about what happens to your body after the spirit leaves it.  It was very nice and helped the kids understand a little bit more about what is going on.

After the meeting we went to the park for lunch before it started and all but a few people were missing and as I stood there and watched my extended family eat dinner together, which we haven't done for years, I  couldn't help but think how happy my grandma and grandpa were seeing us all together again.

Friday after the funeral the hurst, on the way to the grave drove by grandpa's house one last time, just like they did when my grandma died, and I took this quick picture as I passed.

Dad received the military flag since he was the oldest son.  It was very need to have the military there, they brought a nice spirit or respect and reverence.

Grandpa's last time at the cabin a few weeks before he passed.  I just love this picture.

Saturday I'm not sure what we did.
Sunday after church they kids wanted to go back up to both grandpa and Brenda's graves and see them. They wanted to see grandpa's looked like after it was in the ground.  And they had never seen were Brenda was buried.  So we took a drive and went to see them.  Since Brenda's was in Salt Lake we stopped by to grandpa and Wendy and visited with them for an hour or so.

Then went to Kathy's for dinner and saw that side of the family.  It is always fun to see grandparents and we were happy grandpa and grandma Spjut were there also.

Monday all the Gardner cousins came over for a little water party and dinner.

Tuesday, since all the cousins were still in school I took the kids to Bountiful Rec and let them swim before we went home to pack and drive back home on Wednesday so we could be ready for family to come to our house on Saturday!

Grandpa

The world lost a great man today.  Grandpa died tonight from pancreatic cancer that he found out he had in February. It is so sad and I still can't believe he is gone.  When we saw him at Christmas he looked so healthy and was feeling pretty good, he said.  I am so glad that we went back for Christmas and had that last little time with him even though we didn't know it was the last time we would see him on earth.
We love you grandpa and will miss you very much.
